Got my first annual on the Chief done today. Overall, very good shape. But I could use some help finding a couple of parts. First, one the problems I was having occasionally on landing wasn't a brake grabbing, like I thought. The left wheel was so loose it wobbled once we lifted it off the ground to take it off and check the bearings. It was so loose, that it basically chewed the aluminum hubcap on that side up, or at least the flange area of the hubcap around the wheelpant axle extension. Luckily, the bearings and race were unharmed, but whoa, Betsy, that sure explained some of the ground handling I'd get occasionally. The other side was a little loose as well. And I had to replace the bearings in the tailwheel. But other than these wheel problems, she's in great shape!
So, where could I possibly find a replacement hub cap? It's the little aluminum cap with three screws that covers the bearing and washer and hugs the axle extension for the wheelpants to keep dirt from the bearings.
Second, I need a new parking brake cable and housing assembly. My cable is basically frozen (very tightly bound) in the flexible housing that leads from the handle to the adjustment mechanism by the pedals.
I've looked at Univair and Wag-Aero and can't find anything for either of these.
Finally, how does one get the instrument cover off. I need to recalibrate my altimeter. So I need to take it out, but I can't figure out how to get that cover off.

The cover is held by the oil pressure and oil temp gauges. You need to loosen them to get the cover off.
The cover for the bearings are still around but I don't have one. There are different screw spacings so be careful when buying one. When you cotter pin the axle nut use two shorter pins rather than one long one. This will keep the spread ends inside the axle tube and keep the pin from wearing the cover. If the axle extensions prevent the use of two pins, be careful when you bend the ends.
Make sure the spacers are correct for your wheels and the axle nut is not bottoming out.
The bulk Bowden cable is available and I can send you a PM on where to obtain if you can't find a pre-fabricated one.

Hmmm, okay, how does one loosen the oil temp and pressure gauges to get the instrument cover off?

From the backside of the gauge, there are 2 nuts that hold down a u shaped bracket that is wider than the gauge and presses against the back of the panel. just feel for the 2 nuts and unscrew them., Jim
