June 11th
Peachstate Aerodrome (GA2)
After some proding from a couple Southern's, we're gonna do it again.
It’s setup to be an easy going flyin with no official schedule. This will be a one day hang-out, meet up with old friends, look at other airplanes kinda thing. Some things to know…..
Location:
Peachstate Aerodrome (GA2)
2400x100 Turf marked with cones and tires, Runway’s 13-31 with a slight dip in the middle. RW31 has a displaced threshold for (use full length at your discretion; you can’t see the other end except from the displaced threshold on.) The runway has a bit of washboard to it in the middle that can get a little rough.
What to Bring:
Tie-Down’s if you're staying the night.
Sunscreen
Camera
A great Attitude
Fuel:
Self Serve Is located on the field; $5.12 but that can change between now and then. Other options are; Griffin (6A2) 5 miles East; Thomaston (OPN) 15miles South; and Tara (4A7) 10miles North.
Food:
There is a restraunt located on site; http://www.barnstormersgrill.com You are on your own, they have a good buffet as well as the full menu. I will have a cooler stashed with water and other drinks in it.
Shelter:
If you want to hang out over night or bring the family/friends there's good ‘Ol fashion camping. But if that’s not your thing… several hotels are located about 6 miles away in Griffin.
Best Western
Howard Johnson Inn
Comfort Inn
Days Inn
Super 8
And several B&B's around the area.
Transportation:
We should have enough vehicles to cover any trips to/from town. But if you like to go solo…
Economy Rent-A-Car 770-227-5966
Enterprise Rent-A-Car 770-223-2830
Things to Do:
If you’re interested in touring the local area; Peachstree City, (you can fly over; KFFC) is 15 miles away and home to Aircraft Spruce and Specialty; Atlanta Motor Speedway is about 10 miles to the North located next to the Tara airport. For a pleasant flight and sight seeing; river-run the Flint River into the Pine Mountains. It’s about an hour round-trip more or less. There is a really nice dock down on the stocked pond located behind the hangar if you feel like getting a line wet.
If you need a BFR; Clay Hammond is usually hanging around. (404)406.0706
Here you see the general layout of the airport. Generally we park in front of the hangar/restaurant and the area on the right; somebody should help you park, if not, go with the flow. The RED arrows show the general taxi routes. RW31 has the displaced threshold for; use full length at your discretion but you can’t see the other end except from the threshold forward.
