If you're putting an O-200 on, then you'll need the Buzz Wagner STC. You might need the big tail, I'm not sure.

Is Don building an O-200 or using an O-200 case and C-90 parts?

I "think" Don uses his own STC paperwork for the 'super 85' conversion. Mike Kelley would know this among others. I have the Buzz Wagner 0200 conversion that I'm putting on my L16A (7BCM). A big tail is not required but recommended for spin recovery (his words). I suspect it's not really necessary. It's not a 'bolt up' conversion to say the least but it's doable with enough 'fortitude'.

Thread drift.... Don's has several small continental STC's. Most notable, is the Super-85 (O-200 crank/rods/pistons in an 85 case) and the O-200 case STC (replace a C-85/C-90 case with an O-200) So you could go to a junk yard, buy an O-200 complete off a Cessna 150, install a C-85 cam and with a little paper work, have a C-85 again. And be legal!.

Pat,
I hate to tell you this, but I would NEVER replace a rebuildable C-90 with an 0200. The C-90 is the best performing small continental going. Its peak RPM is far, far lower than the 0200, so, it makes its max power at a RPM that you will see. I am assuming that you are considering this due to wanting a starter? Talk to Don Sword. Perhaps he might have a -12 or -14 C-90 that he could fix up for your plane. Don is a great guy, and does great work.

I talked to Don recently about rebuilding my C-90 and he does have C-90-12 cases available if you want to have a starter. He also talked me out of an 0-200 change over due to the RPM issue, the higher continuous HP rating of the C-90 over the 0-200 and then much higher foot pounds of torque.
