Check this out

Did this guy really know what he was doing or just lucky as hell. The tail number is blurred out but I think it may be our northern neighbor.

hhhhmmmmm...... density altitude,,,,,gross weight,,,, who really needs to know this stuff????

She is a good old girl to take that beating,,, probably not the first time..... My parents had a 108-3 when I was just a little turd. Don't remember flying in it, but I do remember the results of a bad windstorm.....ugly

Real pilots don't read NOTAMS, or calculate Density Altitude, do they?
Rule of thumb I use, airborne by mid field. Hit the air, or hit the brakes.
Rule of thumb mountain freight dogs use, 75% of Vx at mid field. I'm not getting paid enough for that.

We had one just a bit less scary than that last summer leaving Blakesburg in my friend's Fairchild 24. We had 3 of us onboard, a nasty crosswind, a very wet turf runway and about 90 degree temp. We didn't clip any trees, but apparently some of the witnesses thought we were going to. I was in the back seat and didn't realize anything was seriously amiss until we got airborne and the front-seaters were able to exhale and talk about it.

A Ranger powered Fairchild with 3 people at BTB? Good thing you couldn't see. Ken Love and Bob Gast wouldn't even try that. Saw a 108-1 Stinson with a load of Coors stagger in the South corn field one year trying to takeoff.
