Aeronca 7AC Van Sickle ne Cleveland brake parts

Post by Corradi »

Newbie John C here, in northern Virginia, looking for brake parts for my 1946 7AC Champ.
I know, who isn't?! :-)
Don Jones in Guam is still weeks, or maybe even months away from having any, ditto Groves in California.
Does anyone have any serviceable brake parts available?
Need brake shoes, linings, wear plates, springs, lever cam-actuators, pulleys, maybe even wheels & backing plates for Van Sickle (Cleveland) mechanical expander-type drum brakes. Ideally, I'd like to purchase a complete assembly (left & right) to use while I have as many parts of mine duplicated as possible.
Thanks,
John Corradi

I have a set of new linings that I will sell if/when I sell my Champ. I have had this Champ for 5-6 years and have been fighting the brake parts issue the whole time I have owned it. Actually it is probably the main reason I am selling it. Parts cost and availability have forced me into the homebuilt arena. If you need everything I think I would just go ahead and take a loan out against your home and order the EXTREMELY overpriced hydraulic brakes from WAG. Unfortunately I think the price has double for the kit since I bought my Champ. I should have bought it when I first purchased the plane.
I will have to look as I may have a few other Van Sickle parts also.

John,
Check with Donna Losey at the Luscombe people in Arizona. They have some of the parts you need.

Don Jones now makes many of the parts for drum brakes. Here is a photo of some of the parts that I took at the NAA booth at Oshkosh. Done can provide the back plate, the shoes an liners, the cam, and the shoe and cam lever springs. Don sells on ebay almost all the time. You can spot his ads as Don in located in Guam.
