Slick Mag Rebate

Post by MikeB »

For whatever its' worth department:
I recently ordered a Slick Magneto kit for my 0200 engine and found out that Champion will take all mags including Slicks, regardless of the number, for the $300 rebate. I guess this is until the end of 2011. Prior to this, they wouldn't take the older Slicks in as 'core'.
The kits come without the drive gears, though. I had a couple off my old mags.

Make sure you have the drive gears for the mags and engine--the mags do not come with them and they are about $500 a piece.

Not all gears will fit the Slick Mags.

There are gears, and then there are gears.

The kit cost around $1800 with mags, plugs and wires including the $300 core charge. The gears from my old Slick 447 mags fit so that's not an issue and they took the 447's as core. Kind of 'hosed' me on shipping at close to $40 but not much I can do about it. Also (and I need to go back and look at this) it supposedly included the 500 hour inspection, which is pretty 'long term' for me.

I am getting near the 500 hr. inspection mark on a set of Slick mags on my C-85. Anyone know of a good location to send them for this service? Is it generally worth it or is this a point when changing Mag, wires and plugs as a kit is more economical.

If you can find a slick manual that covers the 500 hr, it's pretty simple: basically inspect, clean, lube and adjust.
