Aeronca Bluebook values 2011
Re: Aeronca Bluebook values 2011
Thanks,
That's interesting. I've been half thinking about selling my A65 Champ that I've had for about 10 years
but I thought I'd wait a bit longer until next year and see how my L16 works out. Stored in my shop at home right now with the wings and tail feathers off as I only have one hangar. Also wanted to do an inspection on the wings and some fabric repair. I had around $18-19,000 in mind so pretty much in the ball park all things considered. The wings will eventually need cover, although they still check out in the 'green' and I can't see any damage. If another hangar becomes available or I can build on, I might keep it. Kind of like one of the family. Lots of happy miles in the bird
.

I wonder what will happen to prices if the FAA passed the 180 HP or Less - no Medical change to the LSA rules. I know that Cessna 150/152 and 172s and other trainers in that size range, will for sure go up in value and we might see a reduction in the value of Fabric LSAs.

Re: Aeronca Bluebook values 2011
At the rate we're losing pilots coupled with a stagnated economy I wouldn't hold my breath on any aircraft value rising substantially. Just like the housing industry the aircraft market was artificially inflated for a long time and now we're facing a needed market correction. The problem now is some airplanes aren't worth owning for most pilots. I have a customer with a Stinson 108 that will soon need recover with a 150 Franklin that has issues and it just isn't feasible to stick any money into it. It may be o.k. for someone in the bush to buy it and modify but for the average general aviation owner that type airplane is a bad investment. He paid around 22,000 (too much even then) for it about eight years ago and would suspect he would have a hard time getting 14,000 for it now. And that price will keep going down as it ages.rkittine wrote:I wonder what will happen to prices if the FAA passed the 180 HP or Less - no Medical change to the LSA rules. Good point, Al. The old Stinson 108 at our airport left in a trailer couple of months ago for a complete recover. I think the guy paid about $20,000 for it. Engine (165 Franklin) had about 5 hours on it since $11,000 overhaul by Big Red (???) although that was included in the price so maybe not too bad. However, it had been sitting for several years. Hope it works out for the guy anyway.
Regarding prices: there are a pile of Cessna 150's etc. presently on the market around $20,000. Even 140 Cherokees can be bought for $25,000 or so. By the way, your dad rebuilt the engine on my 140 (which I sold) back in 1979. Kind of wish I had it back at times although it's still on the airport and I can shed a tear when it flies by.
We (the flying club) work hard trying to build an interest in flying but I think it's too expensive and there are too many limitations for a lot of folks. For those of us that have been in it and own our planes it isn't quite as bad but I never add up my actual 'cost to fly'
. We still have a good group that flys in to the club most Saturday mornings when the weather is nice but not too many young folks unless they're riding in the back seat.

Re: Aeronca Bluebook values 2011
Having owned a lot of planes as most people on the forum, I can't say that ownership is less costly then renting, but having it when you want it for how long you want it with no minumum hours per day and also knowing what is working or not, are some of the added benefits. I have found that if you can find a GOOD partner, that ownership can be a little easier.
