4 point seat belt upgrade - ?suggestions/?opinions/?experien

Post by geraldvg »

Want to upgrade my seat belts to 4 point. Looked at Hooker's solution at AirVenture this year. Looked good to me, but I've been told there are better ways to go. I'd like to get some input from others on their opinions/experiences. :| :?:

The only issue I've had with Hookers are the shoulder pads. If you run the straps straight from the carry-through to the buckle without the hold down straps on the seat back, the pads will start to rub your neck and feel like a noose after 4-5 hours in the seat. With the hold down straps, it's not an issue. I especially like the ability to center the harness on big and little passengers without having to re-thread the harness like standard belts.

Something to think about; spring for a 5 point harness. The crotch strap is your best friend in turbulence, and will keep you solidly in the seat with the belt around your legs (where it needs to be.) Plus you won't submarine out of the harness if things go really bad.

We run them in the company aircraft and like them; I plan to put a set in my Champ.

While I've only had one encounter with Hooker, I would NEVER order anything from them again.
I've got a bone stock Smith Kit Supercub. Several years ago, I called Hooker and inquired about a harness system for my Cub. They repeated several times, that "we know exactly what you have, and can provide a great harness for you". Well, a few weeks and $600 later, I was absolutely shocked with NOTHING fit, and I mean NOTHING. I'll never buy Hooker again. That was just my experience, like they say, you're mileage may vary.

I have a set of 5 points in the Sedan and love them. Still have not hooked up the shoulder harness parts yet but the lower 3 points are very nice.
