Small Holes in Aeronca Control Wheel Emblem

Post by skookum »

Would anyone be able to tell me how the holes in the Aeronca Emblem fasten to the Control Wheel? Two very tiny holes in the round sides do not line up with anything on my plane, which is also a metal wheel with steel spokes and the emblems can very easily fall off. Any thoughts about how they are fastened to the Control Wheel would be appreciated.

David,
I may be all messed up here, but I remember a stamped steel cup affair that went around the shaft from behind the wheel. The emblem was screwed to that and it covered the wheel attach.

That would make sense. Oh my, more missing parts. Hopefully someone out there can find a picture of this part or a drawing. Might be simple to make one.

Thanks

David,
Those wheels don't look like 11AC. They might be Taylorcraft banjo wheels from a Deluxe model.

David,
what you have are Yoke number 3-148. They are 1 of 3 different yoke styles that were on the 65CA/65LB Chiefs,

The "Name Plate - Control Wheel" is 1-845. This is the same part number that was used through the later 11 series of Chiefs. But the early parts are differnt even though the part number is the same.

The inner Diameter of the early one is 2.5937 and it was later changed to 2.594 inches. This isn't much, but the early mounting was a press fit. The later mounting was with screws. The early piece also did not have a notch at the 12 o'clock position. This is for an additional piece that is part of the back stamping.

My advice is to use a little well placed and hidden epoxy glue or puddy to hold the Name Plate in place.

I hope this helps.

Craig
