Maritime Provinces - a trip for summer 2013

I have a pilot friend who has a lot of flying experience. Among other toys, he owns a Legend Cub, amphib with floats and wheels. He regularly flies it to the Florida Keys for the winter season. This summer, he flew it from Wisconsin to Alaska and back this summer, stopping for gas when needed, even on the Alcan highway for some MoGas. Next summer, he wants to plan a trip from Wisconsin to the maritime provinces of Canada – in the Legend Cub! I’d like to share some resources you may know about, to assist him in having a great adventure. I may even want to join him in my Champ. Recommendations from those with experience flying in that area would be appreciated.

I'll highly recommend reading True North by George Erickson. He flew a PA-11 on straight floats all across Canada from Wisconsin (I think) and does a great job telling the story. Not so much... I flew here, it took XX gals of fuel and YYYY time; but more like a history book and diary of his travel put together. Lots of tails about the Hudson Bay Co. and other local's that built up and continue to run the back country of Canada. It's a good book, regardless if you play to fly up there or not; probably one of my favorite "current" flying/travel books.

There is an organization called the Century Flight Club, run by a fellow called John Lovelace, same guy that does the AVIATION program on TV, PBS I think. They are planning their trip to the Maritimes for 2013. Last year was Yellowknife which I attended. Go to www.crosscanadaflight.com for information.

Last summer I put my two week trip from Oregon to OSH and back on one credit card. Cost was just under a grand a week. Solid money but less than the cost of sitting around at a resort or on a cruise ship.
Flying into Canada requires a third class medical (I'm flying Light Sport) but otherwise if you can fly from here to there long trips are no more difficult. Current sectionals and airport info which may be on your hand held GPS.
Two hour hops, three a day, are a great pace.
