Oil Change Intervals

25hr on the airplane, and the filter/screen gets pulled every time. I've used straight W65/W80 all my years, but this last oil change switched to Phillips 20w50, do to limited availability of W65 and in some cases W80.

The truck use to get an oil change around 3,000 miles which comes out to 66 hours at a 45mph average. But I've switched over to Mobil1 full synthetic and run 6,000 miles now.

OK! Here's another question: is there anyway (markings on the container) to tell how old the oil is? I'm in the process of cleaning out a hangar that a 90 year old owned at our airport. I bought it in a weak moment even though I knew what a pack rat he was but that's another story . Anyway, there is a full case of Aeroshell 65 (black plastic bottles) and probably another case of Pure Aviation (unsure of the viscosity) oil in the cardboard cans. I know the Pure ones are old but don't know about the Aeroshell 65. If I can't find out I'm guessing they're going to become bar oil for the chain saw.

This guy saved every plastic milk bottle, board, newspaper, magazine, old matresses and carpet. So far I've filled a 12 yard dumpster, 2 trips of steel to the metal recycler (18 foot trailer) and three trips to the local recycle place for cardboard, etc. I should have probably had my head examined but I hated to see the place wind up in a messy estate sale.

Mike,
Shell changes the color of the bottles to determine dates. They might have a code on the container also. This came up at a renewal clinic, Shell had just changed to the black bottles from the white. That was the vendor reps explanation.

I'll take another look at the containers. They are black as I mentioned and I'm guessing he bought the oil after his Franklin was overhauled but that was maybe five-six years ago.
