WTB - 46 champ 7AC no bounce landing gear
WTB - 46 champ 7AC no bounce landing gear
completing restoration on 1946 champ 7AC.
intended to use citabria sprung steel gear. so the original landing gear was sold.
cant get field approval for the sprung steel gear.
so
no choice but to go back to the original style gear.
any information on locating this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you pleaded your case with ACA and seen if they can provide any drawings or help? They own the TC.

You just missed a complete set of landing gear on Ebay about 4 days ago...
Well worth keeping an eye out there and on Barnstormers...
Personally I would go with the original Aeronca gear first, the "no-bounce" gear and third choice would be the spring steel gear, but thats me!

Re: WTB - 46 champ 7AC no bounce landing gear
We need everything
Including axles
Didn't think of ebay
I'll be watching that now
I haven't seen anything on barnstormers yet
Any help is appreciated
Any thank you for the responses
Yes, we're looking for the no bounce gear preferably
We made other changes to the aircraft
But the only issue we have right now with FAA is the spring steel gear
If we go back to original gear we might be as to fly it soon

You might want to try posting on one of the Seaplane Forums as many guys have converted their planes over to floats and may have the wheel assemblies hanging around collecting dust.

Jon,
From my angle I can see where the stock 7AC frame was replaced with a 7ACA fuselage assembly.

Re: WTB - 46 champ 7AC no bounce landing gear
i added another pic
original aircraft - 1946 aeronca champ 7AC
we got changes from buzz wagner - who had either field approvals or STC's.
skylight, squared off rudder (i think it is slightly smaller than a citabria though), hydraulic brakes, spring steel gear (from citabria), squared off side window
full electrical system.
108hp engine, same as in a 152 or (i think) a -flight school- tomahawk.
the airframe was bare. we had a welder make the changes to the frame as per wagners design to install the spring steel gear - on a 7AC frame.
the only issue that we have with the FAA (that they really will not let us get past) is the gear

Re: WTB - 46 champ 7AC no bounce landing gear
Jon,
I've installed this same gear on the oleo Citabria's. It was just a matter of replacing the truss assembly.
You may have scared the Feds with all of the changes. My guess is their holding you hostage because they don't want to approve this many changes, you have them out of their comfort zone. With this alteration I would be dealing with the ACO and leave the locals out of it. They can't do much anymore.

Get an antique/vintage aircraft DER to draw up some approved data. You might have to pay a little cash to have it done, depends how much your willing provide as far as paperwork, drawings, etc. There are a few DER's that specialize in classic aircraft, just do a google search. One that comes to mind is in TX somewhere. A friend used them and had excellent results, price was resonable too.

I would try antique airfield also. They might have some insight into keeping the gear as is. That's a real fine looking bird and I'm sure the gear is perfectly safe. Good luck!
