Hello All;
I am a new member from the Seattle area. I purchased a '46 7ac 65hp in January, N83987. Previous owner was in Yelm WA. I keep the plane at Harvey Field in Snohomish WA. I am trying to locate some goodyear wheels for my plane, and am having some trouble with all the different part numbers, assy numbers, model numbers.
Wheels presently on my plane are:
inboard; part number 530685, assy number 511413, alt assy number 511475, patent number 40966-c
outboard; part number 530659, assy number ?, alt assy number l6h/mbd, , patent number 40958-capacity 1200lb
I found a wheel set that has the part number inboard 530685s, outboard 530659s. 1500lb capacity
What does the S mean ??. Will these fit on a champ with goodyear brakes ?.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Tom O.

Tom,
Welcome to the group. I don't have an answer for you and suspect over half of the brain trust of this forum is at Oshkosh. There are a lot of knowledgeable people participating here as well as the Fearless Aeronca Aviators site.

Re: identifying goodyear wheels for 7ac
Tom, The best thing to remember with Goodyear wheels is to just go by assembly and subassembly #s.
The Goodyear part #s on the wheels are based on the plane mfr, such as 530685 is a Luscoumbe # for the inboard halve but the subassembly #of 511475 is the same piece used on aeronca , luscoumbe,funks, early ercoupes , early swifts. and a few others.
The assembly #s for your 7AC with mech brakes is 511413, sub #s 511430 outboard halve, the inboard or brake halve is 511475 sub #.
The S on the end of part and assembly #s only means the inside of the wheel halves have been machined to take a reinforcing spacer to make the wheels rated at 1500 #s . #s ending with R, T, M, S mean 800#, 1050 #, 1200 # , 1500# ratings. Some of all are still out there .
The S assemblys without the spacer are only 1200 # wheels. When you use the part #s it only gets more confusing.
The wheels you are looking at with those ass and subass #s are for your Champ and with the spacer, 1500 # rating, without 1200 # rating.

Colie;
Thanks for responding, I am impressed. So, the 511413m-1 that is on my plane is a 1200lb cap wheel for the champ, and the 511413s is the 1500lb wheel due to the inner spacer.
I found the beginning of a small crack next to the cog for the disk, and I thought I should prepare for the worst. Is there a document that describes all the part numbers for different models ?, I sure would like to get my hands on it. I am trying to figure out why the spacer between the wheel halves gives the extra 300lb capacity ?.
Thanks again for the help, I need it.

Thanks for responding, this was my first post, and I am impressed with the response.
I think Colie set me straight on which wheels will fit my champ. I am sure you are right that half the brain trust is at Oshkosh. I have never been, but came close to going this year. Maybe next year. I had been out of flying for 15 years, and got current last summer, and bought the champ in January. Having a ball with it. I have got the wheel landing figured out I think.
Thanks again

Tom,
Richard of Florence (OR), a regular on the f-AA maillist, flies to Oshkosh in his champ. I'd bet he'd welcome another champ making the journey with him.

Re: identifying goodyear wheels for 7ac
Tom, AERONCA AVIATORS Club has a copy of a Goodyear manual that I supplied , that covers the Goodyear low flange and high flange wheels , hydraulic and mech brake info, such as troubleshooting, assembly and adjusting your wheels and brakes. every Aeronca owner with Goodyear wheels should own one and let his AP borrow it when needed. If your wheel is cracked at the disc key area, it needs to be replaced. The crack is the result of throwing a disc due to worn out wheel keys worn out or warped discs, and or improperly adjusted mech brakes. The booklet has most info you will need but not all if you need any additional info, just ask on here or PM me.

I think I will join the AERONCA AVIATORS CLUB, I think it is about $35/yr.
Where do you find these wheels ??. Is the high flange for mechanical, and low flange for hydraulic brakes ?. Can those keys be replaced ?, it looks like they are swaged in there.
Thanks for the info
Tom O.
I tried to attach a photo of 83987 but the quota has been reached

I have taken the champ up to 5000' thus far. I haven't tried to cross the cascade mountains yet, I can't imagine getting over the rockies, but it looks like crossing over I-90 would be the best bet, around Missoula MT.
Have you been over the Rockies in a champ ?.
thanks
