A-65-12
according to the continental t/c for the a65, an a65 -12 is an a68-8 with a c75 crankcase and accessory case(including gears/pads for a starter/generator) all other parts remain a65. good way to get a starter( b+c specialtys lightweight/10.2 lbs)on a 11ac/7ac using a 12 volt mini batt for starting only. ideas? when you are flying alone, proping is a pain in the ___. bernie

The C series crankcase has a larger index hole for the cylinders than the A series. The A65 cylinders will bolt down but have no support on the lower skirt section of a C series crankcase. If a starter is needed I would look for an A65-9 engine or change over to a C75 or C85-12. Paul Agaliotis

a-65 -8 vs a-65-12
thanks for the help. the a65-9 will only take the large/heavey eclipse/e 80 style starter which requires punching a hole through the firewall to make it fit. i'm in redding ca used to live in mry.to my knowledge there is no stc for putting a c75 in the 11ac. i am aware of the service letter for upgrading to a c-85-8 but not the c-85 -12. perhaps you know someone that has done this. thanks again bernie

mystery solved. continental made the a-65-12 for the mooney mites. they modified the a-65 crankase so it would allow the installation of a c-75 accessory case/gears for a starter and generator. no changes to the crankcase bore so the cylinders stayed the same. now if i could just find a mooney mite being parted out (good luck) bernie
