Fitting the exterior rear window trim on my '60 EC and it appears that I don't have all the trim pieces. Can someone post a picture of the forward vertical exterior trim piece for both rear windows? Maybe some dimensions? I don't have a Champ handy to look at. I do have the top and bottom curved pieces.
Thanks in advance,
Steve jones

Re: Side Windows Trim
This isn't my plane, it was from Oshkosh this past summer.
I don't seem to remember a trim piece on the front edge, I think the window slips under an existing piece that's welded on the planes fuselage window frame.
I think there's only the 2 pieces, the top and bottom. I may get a chance to get out to the hangar today and I could look at my bare fuselage frame.
Maybe this photo will help,

Re: Side Windows Trim
James your picture shows how my Champ is fitted. The rear windows slide behind a vertical piece of steel and front of the wood rear window frame, There is a top piece and a bottom piece of trim that secure the window to the rest of the wood frame and they meet at the furthest point to the rear.

Mine's got regular holes drilled in like there was a trim panel screwed into it. The forward ends of the long curved pieces look like they are about 3/16" short like they meet up with a trim piece.
Thanks,
Steve

It could possibly be a piece that was there on your plane, although it's not needed.
Measure the size you need and make one out of aluminum and match the holes to what's already there.

My 7AC Champ is also trimmed like the one in the photo. You can see the wood vertical piece behind the plexiglass, which might lead one to think a piece is missing. It is the same as Richard Murray described.

I am doing a fuselage recover, winter project my plane SN-1943 does not have that steel lip, the window attaches to the wood frame, Which I replaced, had some dry rot along the lower edge, signes it was outside and not in a hanger. The new wood is lipped and recessed to fit the window, I cut my own windows out of Lexan, using blind nuts to secure the aluminum trim. Like your comment how does that forward aluminum piece fit, their was a piece of fabric their, I know that’s not right, you photo helped, but it’s hard to see how it’s secured. Their are other Champs on the Airfield I need to check them out. My concern is the aileron Control cables are in that area. In my way of thinking, that’s a no screw zone.
