Mike: The 0-170 is military for 65 . 170 cubes. The journal will almost never wear out at the gear end but the front journal will eat itself up. It has little bearing area that actually is used, as things aren't centered well in this area, plus all the dirt in the oil sees this area and grinds it to death. The cam itself will wear out of spec in this journal sometimes on a taper. You should not have any problem with maintaining gear lash of .009-.013 unless that gear bore is really worn.
There is a speciall reamer from CMC for this job, and some people may still have one. Case machining is the rage at the moment to salvage the bores instead of the reamer method, but if the rest of the case is good for decks and mains, ream it and get an oem .020 cam from Fresno. In 60 years the cam bores could be built up with weld and rebored. On that note, don't even think of boring it. You will drive yourself crazey trying to get a tool and bar that won't chatter at that small of a dia. Been there, done that, won't do it again.
Check the lifter bores before you go to far. Too sloppy, the cam followers will not rotate, and you know what happens there

The 100 oct valves are Stellite faced like on the A-75-A80. I have four downstairs , but don't remember the number. I don't think the intakes matter a rat's.
