Thanks

Re: chafe tape holes
I wonder if one of those leather hole punches would work. The kind with the rotary head with assorted sizes, although I think that maybe 1/4" might be the largest size you could get on it.
Here's an example of one at HF.

If you have not glued the material in place yet, I would suggest marking the spot, folding it at the center of that spot and cutting a half circle with sharp scissors. Worked perfectly for me. Also, I used Airtex upholstery glue, that works very well. If it is already in place, you might want to try a razor knife.

Del,
I glue the strip down and use a 5/8" countersink, twist it by hand. Makes a nice hole.

Another suggestion on cuttings holes in rubber baffling material and cowl chafing webbing is to cut a 3 inch or so length of 1/4" to 1/2" dia steel thin wall tubing (like 4130x.035) and grind a sharp knife edge on one end and spin it in your drill. You can cut 4 small notches like a saw blade but remove any burrs with a round file. I also will coat the web with varnish or clear dope and this keeps it from unfraying and gives it a layer of protection from engine oil befor I glue it on. Gordy in Mn

Re: chafe tape holes
I marked centers on the chafe tape clamped to the cowling/ nose bowl, etc and punched correct sized holes with gasket punch. Make sure punch is sharp and backed with scrap wood. Then treated with silicone spray. Perhaps that will resist the inevitable oil stains.

Old Post, but for years Snap On has a gasket tool kit with hole punches up to 1 inch, I’ve had mine for at least 20 years, it’s great and really will do a nice job,not only making gaskets, but cutting holes in leather, cork, polyester fabric, I have that leather tool punch for smaller holes in material, but the snap on kit is really a nice unit. How much they cost today I couldn’t say, but my kit has never lost its edge, and is still sharp.
