about to check the no bounce oleos on our champ for the first time - we sit starboard side low. It's the only champ flying in the UK with no bounce oleos. Don't have a large enough engine hoist and the prop under the strut end method makes me nervous. I'm surprised no one has jacked up under the lower engine mount[s] at the firewall rather than hoisting up from the top ones. I would have thought this more stable than hoisting from above - is there something I am missing? Advice welcome.

I made a frame to hoist the top engine mounts up with a come-a-long and after removing the gear I set it back down on a stack of cement blocks behind the firewall with a wood 4x4 on top. The 4x4 was notched to match the angle of the lower tubes so the weight was on the firewall tube cluster and not on the tubes about 3 inches behind the firewall.. I am anal so I tied a few cement blocks on the floor to the strut upper attach point so if it wanted to tip it would not. It is solid as a rock even with me climbing around inside making brackets for the shoulder harnesses and installing new gauges and lines. I just wanted to make it secure because I did not know how long it would take to finish and I wanted no damage from my stupidity.
