Re: N83002 Fuselage Repair

The sandblasting around the tubing clusters we plan to rework has pointed out some more damage. Two tubes that join at one of the upper engine mount fixtures have been compressed like several others we have seen in this fuselage. We didn't notice them at first, but by shining a flashlight beam down the tubes, the damage is very apparent. Finding these two bad tubes is a good thing. We knew that the engine mount area was out of whack and that some tubing would have to be replaced to realign it. Now we know just where to start. Tubes # 18L and 62 will be cut out and then we will see where the frame relaxes to.

Brian,

Excellent thread and any updates? Several folks were just asking about fuselage jigs and your name came up.

Richard Murray found this thread and glad to see your documentation, but hope that you guys are well finished with the project and moving on!

Brian,
I wish you were closer. I've got a fuselage that needs some work. It's been fixed so many times it's hard to know what's original.
When I get some free time I'll probably call Selma Glenn, he's pretty local.

Paul,

Was talking with Rich Davidson and he tells us that Brian has sold the Champ Jig.... not sure if thats correct or not. He has not said a word about it and if correct am really surprised... hope that it stays in "the family!"

Emailing him now...

Joe,
Sure hope it finds a good home. It looks like a great production tooling fixture.
