Your post has not fallen on deaf ears. A lot of the activity has moved to Facebook and as quickly as one subject receives numerous comments another topic surfaces and the conversation moves on. Only here is some record maintained of the subject matter and one can read comments from many wiser than us.
I found there is an edit button in the lower right on my posts that let me go back and correct the mis-spellings or incorrect grammar. What remains is just plain ignorance..))

Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
Yes, it is too bad. I have needed a source of info for Champs and my Super Decathlon. Between Supercub dot org and J-3 Cub dot com I am covered for Cubs, Cessna 180s, and even occasionally the (ugh) Helio, but this is my only source for Aeronca info, and it has died.
I do not understand Facebook - I signed up, and then got barraged by folks I don't know who want to be friends, and by absolutely innane messages from folks I do know. Every day I get three unsolicited things from Facebook telling me about the fifteen friends I am missing out on.

Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
Please let me add to the voices for this E-mail forum. However, I am afraid it will take something more than remorseful babbling to breath life back into it. No doubt, the Facebook format has proven to be preferable to many of our members so they no longer are providing topical material. I believe this will eventually kill this forum off in its' entirety.
Since I have been a member of this forum, there has been a top down reluctance to solve some problems, notably the ability to post pictures. The solution to that has seemed to be for everyone to obtain photo sharing through a third party application such as Photobucket and then use that to provide photographic content in posts. As I remember it, the justification for this was a cost-basis consideration. While this succeeds, it is a bit awkward and unnecessary. I believe this could easily be covered by membership dues to the NAA which could could cover this and possibly other miscellaneous needs. Another factor is the fact that the scope of the forum is limited to mechanical restoration. If it were broadened to at least include flying topics and perhaps even an NAA coordinated event between the biannual convention, we could possibly interest a broader audience. These ideas are going to require more than us "discontents" posting more often and I believe there are a substantial number of us wanting to preserve the essential character of this forum.
Certainly hope this thread leads to more input from the large number of members who don't want it to just wither and die.

Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
Well in all honesty I do both this site and Facebook and you can segregate your Aeronca stuff away from everything else on FB. The trick is not to have too many 'friends' on FB so you don't get too much stuff you don't want. I have a somewhat liberal cousin on FB who is always rattling my chain but generally I try to stick to what interests me. I also belong to a B29 group. an alumni association and our church but again they are segregated away from the general posting on FB.
Anyway I do like this site and hope it keeps going in some form. Posting pictures is a problem though and much easier on FB. However searching back for some post on FB takes some effort too.

I agree with you guys. This site is the best but FB is convenient but you got to put up with political opinions and cat pictures.

Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
Ok, so you guys don't care for all the FB stuff, cat pictures, and political stuff. But, the associations Facebook page is quite a bit more active. So, for you non Facebook guys here are a few things you can do to make your Facebook experience more enjoyable.
1. Don't make your profile public!! Make it so your posts and what you see only comes from friends.
2. Be selective about your friends. Just because someone sends you a friend request does not mean you have to add them.
3. OH, but you don't want to hurt your nieces feelings because you don't want to ignore her requests, but don't want to see the piles of dog and cat pictures? Accept her request, go to your friends list and there is a tab next to her name. It has a pull down box, one of the options says "acquaintances". Click that and it will not unfriend her, no hurt feelings but you will only get about 1 out of 100 cat pictures. That setting really reduces the number of posts you see from someone and they will never know.
4. You get messages from your friends and you don't want them? Just don't respond, leave them in your inbox. They will sit there and rot and won't cause a problem in the world.
5. Go join the groups you like and enjoy.
6. If you really, really, really want to be anti social and just want to view the association's facebook page or just airplane groups just make a fake facebook page. Name yourself something nobody knows and make the page private. Join the associations Facebook page and don't accept any friend requests. All you will see is their stuff.
I hope this helps you guys.
As I see it there is one problem with the Facebook style page, there is no record of anything that is kept, you can't go to a post on how to put a headliner in for future reference. So, I prefer the forum setting too, but Facebook makes it really easy to post pictures and videos. Even for me I find using Picasa to post pictures here cumbersome and it would help if there was more room on the server to host them here.

Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
I really like to use the ability on this site to go back a research old postings. When I was looking for sliding windows for my Chief project I knew there was a previous posting and I was able to use the 'search' function to locate it. Can't really do that on FB. There is actually an enormous amount of useful information buried in this site. Of course you have to be able to sort it out (some good/some bad/some useful/some not) but if you want some information on a vibrating tail wheel for example, there are a bunch of posts.
I do think some folks have had problems signing up for this site and that may have contributed to the decline by posting members. At one time I believe it was an open forum and then started to get a bunch of spam so limits had to be enforced.

Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
I agree Mike, you don't get the same archive on FB as you do here. It's there on FB, but it is not searchable or easy to find.
Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
I've always thought this was the best forum for Aeronca stuff. Buying, selling, how-to advice, anything. I wish there was more activity. I've been doing a fair amount of work on my little project, and need to get off of my derriere' and post some updates...

Re: I miss reading lot of daily posts
I agree that this website is still one of two best places for things Aeronca. I've alway felt that John Rodkey's Fearless Aeronca Aviators was great for friendly conversation and Joe's work makes this place best for technical subjects, maintenance, repair, buy and sell and the latest on the National Club. Oh, and friendly conversations take place here, too!
I know stand at risk of upsetting others, but Facebook it's too much like being in high school for me, personally. I don't spend much time on the computer any more and I like looking a couple of times a month to get caught up. Facebook seems to be more casual and easy to use but ....
Fearless Aeronca Aviator and this site are still the original and two best websites for Aeronca and I see nothing now or in the future to change my assessment.
Sorry, Mark Zuckerberg, y'all got nothin' on Joe or John.

Carl
