7AC heater

Post by sevenacjack »

The 1st time I posted this it didn't get posted, so here go's again, "is it required that the USELESS heat muff, heater hose, air inlet and heat box be installed on a champ?" I have seen J3 Cubs with all their heater equipment removed, I have posed this question to some of my IA friends and I usually get a "hmmm" just pondering. jack

Jack,
If you are talking about the Cabin heater, it's optional equipment and can be removed.
The Carburetor heater and airbox are required equipment and must be installed and maintained.

Old post, but if you need heat from your Champ, when I was in the Army in Maryland Iworked and flew out of the Laurel Airport. cold place in the winter, and humid in the summer. To get good heat don’t use skeet or scat tubing, use 2 inch aluminum tubing and use fire shield that red stuff you will have to split it and use two pieces, and line the aluminum tubing from the muff to the heat valve, the location of the cabin heat valve, will roast your left leg and foot, the mechanic at Laural did a mod to heat valve could only use 1 inch aluminum tubing, but it distributed the heat along the fire wall, it would get nice and toasty warm but your back was cold. Like the previous post wear winter clothing! I also use that method on my carb heat side, gives good carb heat,
