...So I am looking at the TCDS (type certificate data sheet) for my airplane, placards all look to be there, everything looks to be good and in compliance then I notice the approved engine for the 7ac is a Continental A-65-8.........
well, just so happens I have a Continental A-65-8f installed and it has been since 1966.
So much for the statement that the engine was original with the airplane.
My understanding is that the f refers to a flanged crankshaft. And come to think of it I don't think I've seen any other Champs with one.
Anybody have any thoughts on how to resolve this?
Thanks, Zip

Re: 7ac Engine Issue
Zip,
Continental allows the interchangeability of the crankshafts with no restriction. So if you had the Tapered crank (-8A) or the Flanged (-8F) both would be acceptable for installation. This information is in the overhaul/service manual.
