11AC Bulkhead Questions

Post by nippaero »

I have a couple questions about the bulkeads on my Chief. I am making new bulkheads. I called Wag Aero and AS to see what their bulkheads are made out of. It sounds like they are 3 ply pine. I was going to use birch ply. Any reason not to?

Question on the stiffeners I found on my old bulkheads in the pictures below. I am guessing these were added over the years by people making repairs. Should any of my new bulkheads have stiffeners? Particularly the bottom bulkhead under the seat?

I'd put the stiffeners in. They don't have to be as big as the current pieces. Birch (5ply) would be my wood of choice. The factory used commercial grade 1/4' plywood.

T section stringers. Can be ordered from ACS, but hold on cost is about $1.00 a foot.

Ended up ordering stringer material and T stringers from Aircraft Spruce. Now I'm just waiting for them to ship. 8)
