Continental A40

Post by Paul Agaliotis »

Looking for any A40 parts that might be available for sale. I want to see if there is any inventory before I start building stuff.

Paul-
Several months back there was a fellow in Reno with two engines he and was open for offers for. Aging daily, the progression of ICRSWINI (I can't remember stuff when I need it) is becoming worse. When the name pops back for a moment or two i will pass it along.

Richard,
Thanks for the information. In fact, I'm headed to Reno on Tuesday to look at some other items.

I was curious if there were any parts left, haven't seen many in a few years. I need to get some head gaskets made and before I start the process I wanted to try to find some.

Kind of like the McDowell starter stuff I made. Some of the stuff is available so I only built what was tough to find.

Once I find the A40 stuff I can start on the KC project.

Got the engine apart and it all looks pretty good. Getting the case welded due to a broken cylinder stud.
So I'm looking for some cylinder hold down studs, the long one, to get this engine back together.

Fresno doesn't have any?

They have gone on-line https://www.fresnoairpartsco.com/

and I see the A40 didn't make the website. (now I'm looking for the ad in Trade-a-Plane)

Richard,
Fresno doesn't have them. Kind of an odd little stud, 7/16X20 on both ends. The center of the stud is bottle-necked. I can find some alternate style studs that will work, but looking for the originals if I can find them.

I don’t know if you had any success in finding your A-40 parts, but I think the guy your looking for is in Carson at that Airport, X Emery guy he is on the Aeronca Facebook it’s a closed Facebook, he posted a few weeks back, if I can find him again, I will let you know. I am kinda new on this Facebook stuff.

Brink,
Thanks, I got the case welded and I can use a Lycoming stud if I can't find the proper stud.
Feel the same way about F/B, still can't figure it out and don't really want to.
