Installing Marvel Schebler carb

Post by flyingjack »

7DC Champ: just got my C85 O200 conv MOH back and adding Marvel carb; density alt in CO can hit 10K in summer so needed mixture control. Appears Marvel is not a direct bolt on replacement for Stromberg. Has anybody done this that would talk me through it? Going out to Univair this AM for other parts. Please call/text Jack 303-356-7767 with opinions or ideas. Thanks Jack Horn

Merry Christmas Jack, It’s been a long time ago,But I used the 0-200 intake spider, now this is going to effect your intake tubes, and Airbox where it exits your Cowl, could not use the Special Aeronca Airbox, I think we went to a Cessna Air-box, and a spacer out of Aluminum between the Carburator and the Airbox. We did this on a 337 no DERs back then, It’s a good mod and you will like the conversion. Keep in mind all Density ?Altitude issues are not solved by this modification. I would love to do that mod on BB,but I afford it! I made a mixture control lever longer, and it leans mostly above 5,000 ft. I have a Stromberg Carburator C-75-12 Continental.

Merry Christmas Brink; since I'm in such a hurry to get the Champ flying again, we bought a "Piper' C85 airbox from Univair that had the adapter built in for the Marvel. Everything fits, we just need to fab the mixture "lever" to the new cable we'll be installing. Another Champ owner is sending me pics of his install.

Jack,
It should be pretty easy, all of the bolt holes should be in the right place. The M/S needs some room for the accelerator pump check valve well. I've seen holes drilled and the cover plate on the airbag dinged in to provide clearance. After installation the air filter position might need to be adjusted. You can shim it at the two studs out of the bottom of the engine case. I installed the mixture arm that provides a left to right movement (O200 style) I anchored the cable to an airbag stud with a long spacer. Paint the handle red and go fly.
Merry Christmas
Paul
