Control Cables AD Note
Well, I found out today that I have to replace my in-wing aileron cables. Anybody have any tips on how to do this in a 7AC?

What aspect might be misinterpreted? Is it the crimp dimension or the number of crimps?nowlen wrote:several a/p's hve misintereped the ad regarding the aileron cables. you want a second opinion or call american champion/e mail for an explaination. i'm sure paul would agree. no hackers recently, guess joe got it fixed. paul see you in april bernie

# of crimps. but if you have not replaced them from american champ or they have 250hrs + it shouldn't be necessary to replace them. read carefully, the ad is, as i said, misleading. bernie

As it turns out, I DO have to replace the aileron cables in the wings. Can these be strung through the wings with the ends already nico-pressed? If I butt splice the old and new with tape and pull the new through from the outboard end, will they go through? I'm planning to remove the fuse pulley and the fuse fairlead. Sound doable? Thanks!

You should be able to pull the new cables in finished condition. If you decide to install bulk cable and swage them in place dont use tape, it will allow the cables pull apart. I would use heat shrink tubing to join the ends. We pull some long cables this way and have good sucess. I use 12 to 18 inches of heat shrink.
