Flaps on a Champ
I have a 160hp w/ a 82/42 borer prop. I found that I can rotate off the tail wheel in about 150'-200' and climb just above stall through 4000' and be about 1/2 mile strait out from the runway, no turns. Full tanks and me. So leveling off for me is not real necessary. I have the same effect at gross weight, rate of climb and deck angle is only a slight bit less and take off roll is a little bit more.

AK46 - I wish I had the bigger engine for that takeoff performance. I have the O-290 with a 78 41 prop. Today I was out on the Knik flats and while I could stop in a little over 100 feet, I couldn't do better than 175 on takeoff. That's at about 1500 gross, 45 F and 10kt headwind on sand. I need to really watch takeoff distance when it's loaded up.
Kevin and the other AK gent...
Just heard about the mid-air in Alaska on the news. Pls check in when you guys can so we know you are ok! Know that the two airplanes were not Aeronca's but just to make sure...

Glad to hear you are both ok. I fly a jet for a living and have had TCAS for years. Have had the TCAS go out 2-3 times and after flying with it and being able to tell where the other planes are then having to "fly blind" it really gets your attention.
Lots of planes up there in the air, so lets all fly safe!
