Stinson Again

Post by MikeB »

I realize this is an Aeronca site, but I was talking to the old gentleman who owns the 108 Stinson on our airport yesterday and he's still interested in selling. He's 84 years old and I think his flying days are over.
You can read my previous post "Not an Aeronca but...." for particulars.
In talking to him, I think it will take around $20,000 to buy it (just between us). It looks fairly rough, but he just had the engine totally rebuilt in Nebraska. I tried to list it on the Stinson site, but you have to be a member to post. I'm just trying to bird dog it for him and help him out.

Contact me by email: mikejudyberg@juno.com if you're interested or give me a call 715 878 4492
Thanks,

Mike,

We are glad to help. Is it a -1, -2 or -3 version? Believe that the -3 has a larger tail and some other things.

Very good airplanes and if I did not have my Aeronca might entertain the idea of getting a Stinson.

It's a dash 3 with the big tail and has the wood grain interior.....I believe that makes it a "Stinson Station Wagon". I've flown in it a few times. Nice, stable and will haul a good load, but it does need a lot of TLC. Like I said, I was thinking about buying and restoring it at one time, but (1) I'm not a big fan of Franklin engines and (2) 6 cylinders suck up more gas than 4.

On the other hand, if someone wants or knows someone who can use a heavy hauler with a new engine, etc. this would be a good project to restore. I believe he has all the orginal logs, too.
