Does anyone know what the thickness of Aeronca (7AC/L16) tubing is?
I need to weld a split tube over a slightly bent vertical one above the right
landing gear on my L16 project. According to 43.13, if I remember correctly, the split tube should be of equal or greater thickness as the original. This appears to be a weak member in the Champ air frame as I've seen several bent from hard landings. On the Champ I previously rebuilt someone had also welded in a split tube.
Anyway, I need to know the present tube thickness so I can order the correct size.
Thanks,
Mike Berg

Come to think of it, I didn't look in the L16 manual and parts book, just in the 7AC parts book
. I'll take a look in the L16 manual. Seems from what I remember that the tubing is around .035, but I wanted to be sure before I order the tubing.
