Does anyone have any hints for keeping thise little buggers out of our airplanes? I went to fly my 7EC after about a 2-month downtime last week, and I found two racquetball sized nests on my aileron cable just inside of the bellcrank. Since there are no inspection plates behind the spar, removing the nests wasn't easy. Took me about 45 minutes to get them off the cables and out of the wing.
They just seem to love my hangar, my airplane, and all of it's little nooks and crannies. I can't think of anything to keep them out, and I fear the nest I DON'T find.

I have a major problem with the little buggers. They caused me to total my Stinson 108-3 a few years ago.
Spray the mud area on your control cable where you removed the nest with a good rust preventer, not WD-40, that has a light solvent. Otherwise it will rust if you have any red clay in your area.
My only solution is to look and listen for them and spray them while on their nest with WD-40 or Gunk depending on where they are located. They make a distinct humming/buzzing sound while applying mud to the nest.
They are easy to kill and don't sting, luckily!!
