Wing Tank

Post by Ken Patry »

Before I cover my wings I would like to install a fuel tank in the left wing. There appears to be a few choices, all I want is a few extra gallons to comply with a future engine upgrade. Can anyone give me and idea as to what is the easiest tank to install, one that hangs on spars, or sits on a plywood board. I have installed two butt ribs faceing each other. Does any tank sit on or above the tension wires or do the wires go through the tank. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate your imput.
Thanks... Ken Patry

Wing Tank

Ken,
Check with Joe or Dan at Safe Air. I've had the same thought over the past couple of years (adding another tank) mostly for mental security. I was looking at Safe Air's tanks last year at Oshkosh and it looked like a pretty simple installation (phone number: 507-373-7129 or email: safeair@smig.net. My understanding is that Wag Aero also sells a single tank installation, but they don't advertise it. Not sure if they are STC'd, but I'd guess they are.....makes things a lot simpler. Hope this helps.

Just saw two wing tanks sell on Ebay for a very good price in the last couple of months.

There are several flavours. Depends on if you just want a bit of insurance or "tokyo" tanks holding a lot of gas. The smaller tanks tend to be easier to work into the wings while the larger ones need to be secured better due to their weight.

Ken, think right wing for the single tank. I called Wag-Aero some time back and they do have a single tank for the right wing, 5 gal. And a very
good price too. 1-800-558-6868. I have a 7AC with an A-65, and I would
like a little extra fuel from time to time. I think that is the way I'll go.

The tanks from Wag-Aero are STC'd.....single or both tanks.
