Last Sunday afternoon was a beautiful day in Northwest Wisconsin with blue skies and light winds. Perfect day for a Champ ride so I took the three daughters of friends of ours for their Young Eagles rides. What can be more fun than introducing young kids to the joys of flying? (Besides the Green Bay Packers lost so I missed nothing, as usual).

Glad to see that you are sharing the joy of flying, especially with young kids. Somone did with us and its our duty to share it as well. Might have made a new pilot or two there!
Next week I get to take an 80 year old up. He learned to fly in a champ many years ago. His champ was new!!! His young eagles ride was 72 years ago..........in a BLIMP!
I can still remember my first ride. It was in the 1953 in a J-3, cost two dollars ($1 each for my brother and myself) and was on skis off the Strum lake about a mile west of our present airport. Afterwards, I read everything I could on flying. My favorite was "Eight Hours to Solo".
Joined the Air Force after high school and served as a mechanic ending up on the DEW line in Alaska (this was the 'cold war'). Wished I would have followed through on my flying sooner, but marriage, kids, house payments slowed things down until I was 40 years old.
Anyway, it all started with the ride in the J-3.

Before my Father passed away he gave me his old pilot logbook.
After a while I started looking up the planes he flew and was surprised to find that about half of them are still flying, or at least registered. A mix of J-2's and J-3's but no Aeronca's.
The old Cessna I solo'ed in is still around somewhere. Need to look it up someday...
Everytime I hit the starter I'm having fun!!! I soloed in a 1960 172 that I bought when I had only flown less than 10 hours. I still have that 172 and have had it for 19 years. Bought the Champ last year and now I get to have double the fun!!!
