Props... 42 or 44

I just read a post that stated.....I'm running a McCauley 71-44 metal prop on my 7AC-BCM with a C85- 12F and get good tke off and static RPM..not so good on cruise, about 85 -90 MPH.....he said, not so good on cruise?? I was under the impression that a 44 was in fact a cruise prop....?? I have a McCau 71-44 on my C-85-12, ....is my prop a Cruise or Climb?? thanks, Jim

Hey Jim, a 71/44 is considered a combination prop for a 85hp Champ. It will climb good and cruise good. A 71/46 is a true cruise prop, and a 71/40 is a good climb prop.

I was running a 71/46 on my Super 85 and had great results in both climb and cruise. At gross weight, I could clear a 50 foot obstacle in 1000 feet, and then cruise at 105mph @ 2400rpm. Incidentally, I put a 74/44 on it the other day to see what it would do. Surprisingly enough, I saw no real change in performance.
