Not sure exactly where this post fits. Didn't want to stick it with the "Off-Topics" and I guess it does refer to flying. Anyway, I need to redo the website for our flying club (I serve as president, bill collector, grass cutter, toilet cleaner and apparently, website producer). When I orginally set it up I used the Homestead format because it was free and I'm cheap. Although the website is still active, Homestead apparently won't let me access it to make changes, probably unless I pay a monthly fee which I/we can't afford. Ours is a pretty low buck operation which you can readily tell if you access the website: www.vikingflyingclub.homestead.com .
What I'm looking for is a no cost website system or format that is easy to change and allows me to put pictures and other information on it. It has to be pretty user friendly (only semi computer literate) and another snag is that I'm on a very slow dial up system (no high speed service available either). I understand it will probably come with advertising, etc. but so did Homestead.
Appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Mike Berg

Joe,
Nope! No response yet. The present website doesn't get a lot of traffic. I think there's less than 3000 hits over probably 5 years or so ago when I wrote the old one. Mostly I need to redo it as I want to delete the old one as is has some outdated information (I no longer own the Cherokee and one of the phone numbers is wrong as the person passed away, etc.) But mostly I want to update the format and try to find something easier to post and change information. Basically, it works well for listing the runways, obstructions, CTAF, pattern altitude, etc.
The airport is more or less private and owned by the flying club, although we do have transist traffic, occasional campers, etc. I guess you would call it a typical old time grass strip with Champs, Stinson, Piper Colt and a lonesome Cherokee or two at the present time. Pretty low keyed operation. We had one group (several planes) from California on their way to Oshkosh that camped overnight. That was fun
(we fed them beer and brats: after the flight in, of course).
It is a bit of a struggle to keep it open, pay the taxes, upkeep and some contribute more than our fair share (like any operation). Anyway, the website is not large www.vikingflyingclub.homestead.com . Just looking for something free and better.
