cg problems

Post by big chief 48 »

I was stumped by a recent cg problem while on a fishing trip in voyagers national park. I took my mom for a ride and noticed I had to use full yoke forward to get it on the step. I thought, thats odd why the change? I then took my sister for a ride and it barly got on the step, I almost pulled power, but got it into the air and felt out the controls and there seemed to be no problem with control. I landed and assumed my rear compartments were full of water. While there was some, it was not much, and on the way home it acted the same but maybe not quite as bad. I didn't like the change and told a few guys about it. Now for the suspense, I will tell you what it was in 2 days. (have to go fishing) For a hint look at the pictures of my chief on this topic. cg

nathan- I guess it wasn't that hard to figure out, but yea, it had about 3 gallons inside. I have not figured out on paper the cg change with 20 plus lbs of water back there, but I'll bet it was outside the cg envelope. The Walleye bite is on in northern mn. Caught some beautiful fish, and will be eating them shortly.

It was a lucky guess. I did have a similar experience when I first got my Champ though. After giving it a through wash, I noticed the stick could barely be pulled back. I bet a couple gallons came out of the elevators when I slit them with my pocket knife....... So THATS why they put drain holes in fabric....

Boy I love the Walleye and Northern Pike! Nothing better than a fish swimming that morning.

float flying

Post by big chief 48 »

wwhunter- would really enjoy seeing your plane and going for a burger somewhere. I have had nothing but fun in the short time i've been float flying! There sure are alot of hazards that come with this type of flying. Not life threatning, but plane threatning. I'll give you a holler when I have some time!!! My plane is down on park point in Duluth (sky harbor)
