Any one have a Brackett Air Filter on their 65hp or 85hp Champ?

Well, let's put it this way: there's a multitude of Champs and Chiefs with Brackett filters. I took a little informal count/poll at Oshkosh one time and I'd say probably more than half had Brackett filters.

Same here. Its not on the STC list but what is the option? My Chief had it installed when I purchased it years ago.

Hear that getting them all legal is in the works but wish it could be hurried up!

I believe the option (or correct filter) is the Air Maze. Wag Aero has them for about $60. I don't know the reason, but there must have been a heck of a run on the Bracketts years ago when everyone converted. They seem to be a good filter set up and it seems that Mr. Brackett was working on a STC at one time.

brackett air filter

Post by Tim Juhl »

Yes. I have a Field Approval to install a brackett 4108 filter element in a modified Airmaze filter frame. It was inspected and approved just last year.

Brackett used to sell a kit to convert the airmaze frame to install the brackett filter. Since each installation required individual approval they quit providing the kit some years ago. I had it on my A65 and got it approved for my C85 after I made the switch. You could probably still get the parts from brackett if you knew what to ask for.

The nice thing about using the airmaze filter frame is that it fits so much better with the Aeronca airbox.

I can send you some info if you contact me direct.
