Is there any reason you would not be interested in an O-200 or O-235? Just curious since there are several of those out there and they should have the power you are looking for.
I bought a Champ with an O-235 and am very happy with it.

WWhunter,

I went back and read my original post and I did not mention that I wanted a Light Sport Eligible Champ. Yes, I have looked at some Champs with the O200 and O235. What I've found is most are not LSA because they have a higher gross weight, or if they are LSA legal they have a small useful weight.

Thanks for the suggestion, however.

Onceacop,

It says "Super....." on it. That's enough for me! (Not really, but it will have to do til I win the lottery.)

How you doin bud? Froze your butt of yet? I see it has been a little cold there for the last few days.

Are you going to buy those two SC's for sale in Alaska? I'll take one off your hands! LOL

40 degrees for tomorrow so nice wx. for the weekend. Not much snow, still on wheels.

Jacksons found my elevator cables starting to frey on the Champ. Annual will go over 1000 now. Bummer.

John from BJI will make the flyin sat. he said. Hope to see him.

Take care, Eric

Champ Engine upgrade

Post by Tim Juhl »

I flew behind a A65 from 1985 to 2003. The last ten years were out of my own 1400 foot strip and there were days I didn't trust the 65 to get me out of there (obstacles.) When a C85-12 became available at a reasonable price I overhauled it using the 0-200 crank STC and installed it in my Champ using the Lasher STC which required minimal changes to the aircraft. I did not install the big tail so my gross remains at 1220 lbs. I have since installed a Skytec starter and battery (no engine driven generator) for which I got a field approval. The increased power has made a new airplane out of the Champ. I haven't gained too much extra speed but take off and climb performance are much better. Hauing two people out of my strip now is not a problem. Flying a 65 at lower elevations when you've got a good airport with decent runways and obstacle clearance is not a problem. If you need the extra performance, the C85 (especially when modified with the 0-200 crank) is a good way to go. I wish I'd done it earlier.
