As far as I know it was not Mr. Lindbergs plane. It is amazing what people will pay for stuff sometimes. I have seen it where people get all worked up and pay more than they should. I do not have the luxury of getting emotional about purchases.
Further research on the Champ has revealed the first airframe logbook is missing.... How big a deal is that ? Also there is surface corrosion on inside of fuel tank. As far as I can tell everything else looks proper. i.e. installed parts are on TSDS etc.
For now I will play wait and see. Thanks very much for all your input gentlemen.
Sincerely,
Gary R.
7ac project plane
Gary,
The first logbook is one of those things that "are nice to have" but not that important to tell the truth. My plane is missing everything from 1955 on back and while it would be great to have, its not that important.
Now, you can contact the FAA and get a CD that has all their documentation on the airplane from day one. Cost is about $7 and usually takes a week or so to get. Shows ever 337 and bit of paperwork ever filed on the plane, and this will provide some early history on the plane.

Regarding the fuel tank, thats not unusual. You will find loads of small things like this while pulling the plane down.

its done
Well, it is done..... A nice family from wisconsin came down and put a deposit on the 7ac. They paid around $16,000 so it was way more than I could spend. It is going to good home so that helps.

Boy, thats a bit high for me but guess they feel that its worth it.
I know of one project in my neck of the woods. 7AC with a o-200 or C-85 on it, your choice. Not sure on the price but bet you could get it closer to $10k. Have a friend who could deliver it as well...
