That is what the FAA is doing, single seat it is YOU they will not look for but two or more seats it's ME and others they will not be looking for and that is what the FAA is looking at.
I do not have the new unit but I am sure the Manufacture of the unit will have guide lines like Bendix, King --- .
It's like insurance you hope you do not need it but if you do you hope it is current and will work for you.

Guys I am a little confused here. The elt you are looking at does not say it broadcast at 406 Mhz. The unit described is legal today but will it meet the new requirements to broadcast at 406 Mhz?

ELT installation

Hi Mike, installation is fairly simple although to be strickly legal it requires a A&P sign off in the logs. Mine is mounted on the floor boards along side the rear seat, the switch assy is connected vis modular telephone wire, does require a hold in the instrument panel or a small bracket to mt it. the external ant, would be the most involved most are mounted on the wing fairing pretty simple, running the coax is more involved, install 8 duracell "D" batteries and a battery for the switch and your in business.
Dennis, no that model is not 406, but the 406 requirement is still a couple of years off and at $170.00 vs $1400+ I wouldn't even consider a 406 unit just yet, they may be a lot less money in a couple of years or maybe the FAA won't even require them who knows at this point in time.

Wow. That's a good price on an ELT. Almost wish I needed one. However, my old EBC in the Chief still meets requirements.

Speaking of EBC ELT's --quiz--do you remember what they cost new with battery when first introduced?

Paul--
Close-- $87 and they couldn't give them away--everyone wanted the Narco ELT. I still have an EBC in my Chief. Sorta like the Starlight Transponder.
