Mike, I also have 1941 pre-war --31892 with a 11AC cowling. It does run hot in the summer, but I think it is more to do with baffling problems.
This talk about different lift struts for the 1941 model, has me wondering if I have the proper ones installed on my plane. One of the previous owners told me back in the 70"s that a friend borrowed the plane and landed on a road, hitting a road marker which damaged the lift strut.
The guy replaced them with a set, that he said would work.
The former owner told me that he still has the damaged set.

Hello guys,
First thanks for all the wonderful information.
Rob it was great talking to you in person. Sure beets typing! I will get those pic's to you asap.
Rich I would like to see a picture of your old damaged strut and the set on the plane now. Could they possibly be from a Taylorcraft or later Aeronca etc.?
Paul I look forward to chatting with you to see how your progress is with fabricating these struts. I have pretty much resigned my self to the fact that locating an original single outlet exhaust, baffles, and carburetor box will be very costly.
It amazes me how much of this stuff is made from unobtainium. So, I will most likely offer my original cowl for sale or exchange for a 7 or 11 ac cowl as my exhaust, baffles, engine mount, carburetor box, and air filter element are all new and look to be from an 11 ac.
Maybe you guys know how to make a deal like this happen so I can make some prograss over the winter months.
Thanks and blue skies
Mike

The print numbers for the steel struts for the 65CA are--
wing front steel strut 4-255
wing rear steel strut 4-259
wing brace strut section 1-1721
lower strut fuselge fitting 1-915
strap reinforcing lower strut 1-916
front strut connceting to rear strut plate 1-918
tube upper strut fitting 1-919
section wing brace strut 1-713
end wing rear strut adjustment 1-53
section wing brace strut 1-713
insert rear strut lower 1-1387
tube upper rear strut fitting 1-917
tube upper front strut fitting 1-919
All the above drawings are listed as 65CA.
In s correspondence from John Houser he told me that with the prewar aluminum strut material scarce that most folks were changing to the 1941 65CA steel struts if they had to do wing work.
Hope this is of some help and not confusing.
May your Thanksgiving be a blessed one...

Joe I have pretty much looked at the available drawings @ Todd's site. Any drawings with a 9 in them (i.e. 915,916 etc.) are in a status called prep and I cannot view them. I believe 1-1387 is also just plain unavailable but, rather important in the grand scheme of things. I guess I will just have to ride it out.
Thanks Mike
P.S. picked up a set of Tri-Pacer struts scavenged from an aircraft that went to the scrap yard. Maybe I can rig them to hold up the wing temporarily. (or not) Oh well I guess the fun will be in trying. The fun for me is in the project it really gets the inventive/ creative powers in my brain to stay nimble.
Thanks Mike
