Fuselage repair help

The other drawings have nothing to do with the fuselage, one is the 13 gal tank, wing and elevator trim sorry just listed them here should have asked in another post.

Guys,

Its 0500 here on the West Coast and I am hopping in the Sedan shortly to fly home. Believe it or not I have to work from time to time. Did a 16 hour duty day yesterday and am dog tired.

Will get to sending blueprints out once I get home, get the critters fed and some chow inside me.

Finally back home with a fast internet connection again. Drawings are being sent right now.

Got the prints, they are real clean, they were placed in the spam but you giving a heads up maded me look there.

As far as financial help or donations, join the NAA if you are happy with this board or the drawings. If you are already a member and still feel generous, then buy a membership for a fellow Aeronca owner or get a shirt, hat or the like.

Sandblasting done.

First pic is the bottom longeron right behind the back seat. I cleaned it up and it is almost ready for the new piece.

Next two are right infront of the door. Damage from before and brazed in.

Last is the post repair from before.

I had measured the strut attach point as per Bill Pancake instructions and it was 3/8 in off. I leveled the bottom cage then moved the level to the top front spar carry through. it was off quite a bit. I moved it to the rear spar carry through and it was farely close. The measurements that I took of the cage seems to be correct so the lenghts are correct. I think it is twisted in the front. I did not check the firewall yet, that could or could not be twisted also.

Can I just put a strap around at 45 deg and tighten to take out the twist then heat?

I know some have had to cut tubes to get this lined up. Which tubes were cut?

I plan on replacing the brace that has been brazed. Should I replace the one that was repaired also and remove the straps that they welded on?

What would the experts do on that corner.

Not an Expert but if you a jig setup of some type I would replace it another Option is Aeronca Srevice & Hints #57 that shows a repair of that area.

The other question on the wing to landing gear attachment points I cut tube 70 below door frame, 20 half way down and the step brace above 12 at 71. tube 20 opened up by 3/8 in and let the engine mount lower right close up from being back by 1/4 in.

You are taking on alot and many alignment points are most likely not it the true position. Going this far make sure you going to have a jig to get it back into the correct position and not jig it for what you have now.

Once you get it welded might try to get it set in Brian's or someones jig that is true from engine mount to wings, gear and tail post as one.

Mike, I looked at how you said to cut it. I had looked at that before. The problem I see was that the measurements of 20 as it is now are correct. It matches the other side. I can get the wing attach correct distance by doing that, but now the measurement of 20 is 3/8" off on the right side.

Is this acceptable?

Mike where do I find hints #57 I have the Aeronca 7 and 11 series airplanes and the service manual just bought new it was not in there.

After cutting we used a clamp and lowered the lower tube until it was straight and the jig fixture that checked the left gear / wing spread fit into the right wing / gear attachment. Then with torch heated all the clusters from the back of door opening to the front. Then released the clamp and nothing moved and jig fixture slipped in /out both sides.

Will check distance of 20 should still be right but replaced all tubes cut.

I haven't read anything so far about that brazed repair. Is brazing an authorized repair to fuselage tubing?

I don't remember ever reading about brazing nor have I ever seen it used anywhere.

My Navion had furnace brazed landing gear struts but that is another thing entirely.

The hints are in the 7 & 11 Lasher manual not the Service manuals.
