Paul, I do have the eyebrows for the cylinders. They are a bit rough but I think they can be repaired. The cowl attach bracket on the front of the engine is there, but it is cracked. I do have the cowling, but the lower cowl is badly bent and has many cracks. It looks like the plane has been on its nose. The upper cowl is rough, but useable. I definitely want to put wing tanks in. I will be looking for a copy of an approved 337 field approval to use as a basis for the wing tanks. If anyone has one they would like to share, it would be a great help. I do have the wing struts and they appear to be in good condition.
Joe, thanks for the tip, I will try that next time I get a chance.
SFC Hiatt, I have flown into Ponca City several times, although I haven't been to the fly in breakfast yet. I look forward to flying the Aeronca there when I am finished with it.
Clint,
I found some Tandem stuff and some cowling parts. I rejected them due to the work involved. Here is a picture of my Tandem with the cowl from Buzz. That's my fat a$$ in the back. http://www.mercedflyin.com/photos/50th/ ... N36981.JPG

Clint
Would love to see your project and compare notes.
I too am located in Wichita in process of restoring an 1941 65CA.
By chance, does your bird have the original instrument panel?
Paul, that is a very nice plane. Is it dark blue or black, it's hard for me to tell in the picture. I have a letter from John Houser saying that my plane was originally dark blue with an orange arrow, is this the paint scheme he was talking about? If so, it is very sharp.
So far I havn't had much time to work on the project. I have been busy working lots of overtime and with other projects around the house. I did start taking parts off of the fuselage to get it ready to clean up. Hopefully I will have more time to work on it in the near future.
Clint,
It's dark blue with torch red wings and tail. The stripe should have an Aeronca logo within the stripe. The shape of your stripe is a little different on the TC when compared to the TAC.

This is to Paul or anyone else that may have some input. I got a call from someone, in Ohio, that is looking to install a 5 gal Wing tank in a TAC. From reading the discussion lines it sounds like this can be done if you have wood ribs but it is not approved if you have the metal ribs. Is this correct? Or has someome found an early 337 that can now be used as a basis to do an installation?
Tandems are one airframe that I'm not very familiar with (yet). That will change after I get a Civilian, a Military and a Glider.
Also, has anyone seen or have an L-3 with spoilers. They were standard on the glider, but the drawings also apply them to the L-3 (wood wing). I would love to see an installation in person.
Craig,
Buzz had a STC for the tanks in the wood wings. The metal ribs just don't have the strength to support the tank. I am not aware of an early 337 that covers this installation.
There is an Aeronca flight test airplane that had the spoilers installed. I believe the NAA magazine had a picture of it. That is the only one I know of.
