For no good reason that I can think of, my personal opinion is that auto fuel is fine up through about O-320s. Above that, I think you should use avgas. That's my non scientific opinion.Don Eide wrote:Here is another story.

The problem with Don's story is there is absolutely no proof that auto fuel caused the engine problem - period!
Just because it happened while he was using auto fuel does not mean the fuel was the cause. It sounds to me as if he had some water in the fuel or it could have been some debris in the carb - it could have been any one of a dozen things.
His story is similar to some scare stories printed in the Lycoming newsletter, some were horror stories but none came close to proving any cause by auto fuel. This stuff goes on and on and on.
There is no horsepower limit for auto fuel. Auto fuel is better now than 80/87 was when most of those old engines were designed. Many people use auto fuel in PW R985, 450 hp engines every day!!
The only problem I can see with today's auto fuel is that it is not stable so you can't keep it for a long time, fresh fuel is the answer to most problems.
It is time to get off this sort of nonsense.

Now that we've beat this "horse to death" may I suggest we start another on Champs vs Chiefs, high wing vs low wing, multi vs straight weight oil, Lycoming vs Continental (or you pick the subject 
).
I did go out this morning and put about 45 minutes on the CHAMP with two wheel landings. Beautiful morning with clear skys and light winds.

What really gives me gas is the billions missing in Iraq! Loaded palletts of 100 dollar bills flown to Iraq and just.......missing. A 700 million dollar American embassy, still not finished, poorly built, lots of mistakes. 3 trillion so far and counting. Meanwhile the V.A. is underfunded, vets not getting correct care and they should get better care than corrupt congressmen, who incidentally have lifetime excellent care, THE BEST! Now we are going to pay for deregulation of wall street! and I'm "perturbed about gas for my airplane. My prioritys are wrong!

Joe be correct! Run em outa there! But back to more serious things, mainly Kellys L-19. I am very partial to them and wish I had one! What a great airplane to fly around in, short field landings, takeoffs, horsing it up quickly and be GONE! Ahhhh....what a great way to go! The tail was borrowed from a 195 and that looks good too!
