Mark,
I've tried your system for the last two days, it isn't working so far!

ff,
I give up on finding that stuff. I must have gotten rid of it when I sold all my old Stinson stuff a couple of years ago. Sorry.

Hi all,
We had the GoodYear disk brakes on the 46 and later Luscombes. We got an engineering change approved to make the disks from Stainless Steel SS (heat treated), so that it lasts nearly forever without pitting or re-chrome.
The SS disks are not cheap, but they are available for a little more than a chrome shop will charge for a build-up and grind of your old disks. AND there are othe significant benefits.
In addition to the chrome wear issue, pitting, and the extra disk thickness if building up the chrome, the bigger problem is wear in the wheel key notches along the outer circumference. Clearance here is designed to be just a few thousandths, but the disks wear here and then bang harshly on the square keys, causing the wheels to crack over time next to the screws attaching the keys. New disks to original dimensions will prevent such cracks in the wheel which will occur even if you do not use the brakes...
Classic Aero at 480-650-0883 maintains a fair stock of GY parts for support of these brakes, including pucks, retainers, buttons, puck pushers, actuating pins, bearings, calipers ETC. They also have many parts for the Cleveland (Vansickle) mechanical drum brakes, including brake arm retun springs that reduce brake wear.
