Just found out that we have a new source of parts for our Goodyear wheels. As well its in my backyard!

These people have a small stock of both new and used wheels and parts. Sorry but its only Goodyear, nothing else. Anyone needing parts in this area might give them a shot.

Joe, Good to know. I finally bit the bullet and worked on my Goodyears after 'fast taxing' down the hard surface ramp with the wind behind me.....eeekkkk .
Cleaned everything up, checked the pucks and linkages and adjusted the calipers just as tight as I could. It appears the trick is to get the levers so they are on more of a 90 degree pull, rather than a straight pull, which makes sense, I guess. As things wear, the lever angle changes from a 90 to a straighter pull. Right now they seem to be as good as the Clevelands or 'shoe' type on our other Champs. Anyway, the pucker factor is way down. I also silicone the $$$brake clips$$$$ in. Haven't lost or broke one since. I don't use the brakes a lot as I'm mostly on grass, but when you need them......you need them.

Agreed and you are doing what most of us do. I use the brakes only for run-up for the most part and they work fine for that.

The silicone trick has worked for me and considering the price of these clips it needs to!

I,ve got Goodyear hydraulics on the L16. Haven,t had any problems in the last 10 years but when you do the parts are hard to come by.

Paul, Just interested.......did your L16 come with GY hydraulics or is that a modification? My L16 has GY cable operated.

I was kinda wondering that myself. Can you see what kind of master cylinders and calipers you have for the rest of us?

They are mods. The set-up is similar to a Citabria installation. The reservoir is firewall mounted and the master cylinders are secured to the brake pedals at the lower bolt location. The cylinders are a Gerdes product but the Clevelands have the same dimentions and will bolt in.
It,s actually a pretty simple installation.
I worked on alot of Citabrias with Cleveland brakes and have found the Goodyears to be more trouble-free and require less maintenance.

Paul, Is this done with a STC or a 337? I'm assuming you still have heel brakes ?? I'm also trying to picture how the master cylinders are secured to the brake pedals, if in fact they are heel brakes. I always thought it wouldn't be too hard to hook up a hydraulic brake system on a Champ/L16 etc. with heel brakes but, of course, you have to get it 'certified'. I know you can buy a set up from WAG but $$$$$. Anyway, I'm getting along fine with my cable GY's for now on the Champ, but was kind of looking ahead on the L16 which is a few years down the road at the rate I'm going.

The brakes remain heel brakes. You need to add a support for the master cylinder. This extends from the V section where the axles mount forward to the cylinder,ala Citabria.
Mine are installed via a 337. The wheels are not listed on the TC, only the L6MBD are listed. I have the L6HBD installed.
You need to work with your IA and FSDO, but my opinion is that all the items listed in the TC are applicable to all the models, unless noted.

While cruising through the L16 parts manual today, I noticed that the L16B did come with Good Year hydraulic brakes . However, it appears the L16A only had the cable set up .

I'm going to check some of these out at Oshkosh next week.
