Can anyone help me find a new/refurbished 3.5" cream face tach with clockwise rotation. Failing that can you reccomend a good repair station.

Bob,

Those old instruments are hard to find. Saw one of the old creme faced tach's go on Ebay for almost $500 recently.

The people I have on the Aeronca resource list are:

Instrument restoration Century Instrument (316) 683 – 7571

Superior Instrument Service MI 248 6663450 Chuck

Instrument repair http://www.keystoneinstruments.com/

I would contact them and see if they can help.

muskokabob: Joe and Mike got it covered. I have not had much to do with those instruments.

I used Kansas Instrument Sales & Service (KISS), Wichita, KS, to rebuild my 1946 11AC instruments. Their number is 888-603-5477.

I sent my tach to Keystone Instruments, will let you know the results.
I did find a replacement unit from a "Barn Full of Parts" guy. It looked good, tested ok with the power drill but only lasted about 25 minutes in the plane. In the middle of a 1 hour flight it began to squeel and shake. The indicating hand broke in half and the unit stopped working. The guy did say it had been on his shelf for 15 years so its not too surprising. Stay tuned!

Got my tach back from Keystone along with a new cable. Installed in the Vagabond and went flying, tach was solid as a rock, no bouncing at all so I am very happy with the job.

Bob,

Glad to hear it worked. Did they refinish the dial as well as overhaul the instrument?

They asked me if I wanted the face redone, but I said no, I didn't want a big contrast with the other instruments. They did clean the dial, and that alone made it look very good.
I can't remember how much they wanted for redo of the face, I think $10-$20. The complete overhaul was $155, and thet had to machine a new part, that was $150. $60 for the new cable.
