Anyone out there familiar with the 65 hp Lyc.?
And can it be replaced with the 65 hp Continental?
It's on a pre-war Chief, and I think that on the TC is allowance for both engines, so is it as simple as a swap, or is there other paperwork needed, such as STC, or field approval?

Shorty,
Many of the early Aeronca's were engined with either the Cont or Lyc version. Early on people felt that the Lyc version was not making rated power so most people changed them out with the Continental engine.
They are getting very hard to get parts for these days, with a gasket set going for upwards of $1000 these days. Considering that they still do not put out a lot of power, I would replace it with a Continental if I had the chance.
Most of the old birds could use either engine, so believe that changing a Lyc to a Cont version these days should not be a problem.

If you decide to change to the Cont., would you have and would you consider selling your lyc 0-145 prop? It should be a 34LYC70 I have the 36LYC70 version and it is a little too much pitch. Rod Zapf (310) 488-3563.

You should not have any problems changine to a Continental A-65. The LB (A-702) and the CA (A-675) are different T.C.'s. They are the same airplane aft of the firewall.
I have a 65-LB that I am install a C-85 while rebuilding.

Thanx for the info.
But I decided to pass on the LB, as the same identical airplane was offered for sale
with pics from two different sellers, and two different states, at the same time, and the N-number showed niether to be the registered owner.
Am now constipating on the CA that I grew up with, (now owned by my 2nd cousin)
But I gotta sell th' Cherokee first.

Re: 65 LB
The swap takes a new engine mount, exhaust, cowl, guage markings, 337 and prop.
