National Aeronca Association Bulletin Board

I've looked at previous threads on primers, but think I need more basic advice.

My primer has developed a uselessness that suggests a new one is the only option. I'm presuming (!) it's the original, although I have a 85-12 in the Champ. Recent overhaul of everything except the carb. (pending).

Would I be ok with either of the two mentioned on a previous thread?

All I can find in the manual is 1-788.

Any help, in words of one syllable, gratefully received. With friends on their way to Sun'n'Fun shortly I could get one delivered over the pond the easy way ...

No idea on the primer but I "may" be taking a job based in Luton shortly. Would work 6-8 weeks on and the same off, going back and forth to my home in Arizona.

If this works out and you ever need any reasonable sized Aeronca parts brought over to the UK, pls let me know. Am glad to trade Twiglets for "handling charges" anytime!

The best thing you could deliver, currently, would be some Phoenician weather. I shouldn't be sulking over the 'pooter today....

And we have had snow this morning, rain this afternoon with all of 37º.

The Essex is an FAA approved part if legality is a concern. But you've probably got the airplane in an experimental catagory. In that case, go with the ACS which is cheaper.

A primer is a fairly simple device and not much goes bad on them, except the O-rings. You might pull it appart and see if they've dried out or shrunk over time. That's a lot cheaper than a new primer.

Thanks, Nathan. Just what I needed to know.

I have a ACS on my A65 7AC, and it works fine, if you overhaul your present primer, which is a good idea, before you install new "O" rings, clean everything and use a "fuel proof grease" the stuff sure seals things up good. Jack

Had lots of trouble with my primer. Finally traced it to a mico piece of carbon blocking the nozzle.
