I I have a 47 7ac which I am restoreing. The problem is I can not find any
serial # or Data plate on the plane! Is this a problem I have the n number
logs air wothy , copy of 337, bill of sell, redistration. but nothing on the airframe its self (except n number and sticker under tail w/ s# year etc.
Can I get a new data plate?

You have to provide all your 'evidence' to the FSDO for approval. Then they write the TC holder (i.e. us) a letter with what items to stamp on the data plate and that its releasable. Once you (or we) have the letter, call Mandy or Chad in parts 1-800-223-9381. Its $45 with your info punched on it.

That has been a problem for a long time. If you have the floor boards,
look at them. Most are loacated between the seats or mounted on the
vert. metal panel just aft of the rear seat. If no help, you can purchase
one from Waga-Aero for $7.15...page 114. You will need a 1/8" letter/
number set to install the data. You attach to the floor with #4X3/8" PK
screws. There is no S/N stamped on the airframe like some other A/C.
Best part, you have all the papers needed. If you have no Airworthness
certificate, you would have to go thru a COMPLAINCE INSPECTION with
the FAA. NO one wants that!

you are amazing Lowell. the factory man just told him the legal way to do it and it would only cost $45 to do it legally and you are suggesting he buy one that is illegal just to save $38 and faxing the FAA a couple copies of info from his records. I bout fell off my chair Jerry, only $45

Well, not everything is a PITA to make, you know.
If you listen to the guys on the floor, you would think a bunch of sadists designed each part. Anyway, its not illegal until you get caught.

One thing that several people have done that catches them is buying "replacement" data plates from various vendors. The "gotcha" is that some of them say "Lunken" airport on the bottom of the tag.

Aeronca's were not made in Lunken after the flood, when production was moved to Middletown. Any Aeronca made after this time with a "Lunken" datatag is illegal, and any good IA who knows Aeronca's would not sign it off.
