What's the latest issue of the NAA magazine that was mailed?

Post by skyking3286 »

Since they are so irregular it's hard to know if you have an active membership or not...

So what is the latest issue as of May 2008? How do we know we are missing out if we don't know?!?

Thanks!

How often are they supposed to go out? I've only gotten one and I've been a member for almost a year.

Yeah, it's been about a year since the last magazine went out.

I'm not a board member; but in their defense, it's really hard to put out a newsletter/magazine quarterly that continually has good articles and information. 10-15 years ago it was different because that was the only way to get specific written info on common problems. But now days, we've got the internet, and even better, these forums where we can talk about every squeak our airplanes make.

I think they're working up a new strategy to get the magazine back up to speed, because even with the internet, it's nice to have something you can read at night.

I'm sure they're always looking for a good article or two; maybe about rebuilding spars, or covering you airplane, or understanding LSA requirements and on and on......   wink wink nudge nudge

Not to take anything away from the association, which I think is great, but I sent a article I'd written a couple of years ago to one of the board members along with some pictures. They were looking for magazine articles. Nothing yet at this point, though. However, I understand the difficulty of getting a magazine organized, printed and distributed. If I remember correctly, the funding structure of the organization is that new dues are "due" after a certain volume or issue of the magazine (??? I think thats right). At Oshkosh last year I asked Jim Thompson if I was up to date in my membership and he concurred.

To me this forum is worth the membership but I can understand some reading material on a fairly regular basis would be nice too. I previously belonged to the Cherokee Pilots Association and they put out a magazine on every other month basis. A person might be more inclined to renew the membership on a yearly basis with something 'in hand' every now and then.

Just my thoughts!

Granted...

Now the last issue I received was Vol 13, No. 2 with John Rodkey's Chief on the cover.

Was the last one everyone else received as of May 2008?

I've never received a magazine....

I've yet to receive a NAA magazine. Whomever is supposed to be doing them needs to get rolling.... Middletown may be fertile ground for photos...

Magazines...

Post by bwmatz »

Ok folks. We, the board, ie the guys you see post here on the forum (Joe, Jody, myself) know we have a problem with the magazines. We have done everything WE can to make the NAA better in the last couple of years. Setting up this forum, breathing new life into the convention, merchandise sales on the web, the drawing scan project, a full staff at our booth at OSH, etc.

Jim handles the magazines..he does it all in Roberts, IL. We are all hundreds of miles from there and it's not possible for us to 'drop in' to help him. So, until he decides to hand the task over to us or someone else, we all just have to hang in there.

If it were up to me, I'd bag the magazine and go with a simpler newsletter type of communication. But for now, Jim's the PIC.

In his true attempt to be fair, he is not requiring anyone to renew until every four issues are received. Unfortunately, this does hurt the association financially and makes it hard to put out a magazine. It's a catch-22. Would we handle it differently, Yes.

Thanks to all of you for all the support you have given the NAA and just know that WE know it's a problem and we will do what we can to fix it when able.

P.S. Mike (CptKelly), email me offline and I'll make sure you get a magazine.

Brian, Joe, Jody, all Directors, Sure we like the magazine. But, I for one am having a ball right now. Especially with the forum, and Middletown right around the corner. I check the forum in the morning BEFORE I even think about any work. Fun stuff just needs to come first sometimes. All you have been kind with helping everyone interested in these wonderful airplanes. We appreciate what all you guys are doing(including Jim). I have said before, I am encouraged to see the younger folks coming on strong. Makes me smile. May not be perfect, but we are gaining strength! David J.

Hi David and all. Are you on the email discussion group sponsorer by John Rodkey? If not, visit the following. Many that are on here you will see over there, and many others that aren't. As they use to say, you can double your pleasure, double your fun. roger P.S. If you sign up, use a dedicated email address, as it does generate a bunch of discussion each day. Or you can get it in batch form I think

Roger, I'm real twisted. I am on this forum a lot. But I lurk on the FAA, and BC Club and AAC as well. Can't get enough. Hope they start a treatment program for me soon.....Thanks, David J.

As Roger says, the fAA list is a very good one but does generate a lot of email at times.

Between the NAA board and the fAA email list, if you have an Aeronca related question, it will get answered and fasI really wish I had an asset like these lists when I restored my first Chief.

Thanks for everyone's support! We are trying as hard as we can and still pushing to make things better for everyone.

I think for the most part, you are all doing a great job. My mixed feelings is with the leader of the pack....... It may be time for some new leadership. This news letter would be a much better way to just add support for and to the website. The club has got to be taking in the shorts with the DUES confusion. I for one would be willing to pay for a LIFE TIME MEMBERSHIP if the club could improve the leadership or at least VOTE on the President position in hopes of making things better?

Having said the above, I know someones going to be upset with me but sometimes the truth hurts, and facts are what they are. :?

Johnnie, I can tell you from experience that Jim Thompson is as good a fellow as they come. I count both Jim and our Directors as fine people. Just different viewpoints on the same situation. I believe they are all doing the best that they can. They all give freely of their time and energy. And time and energy is in short supply where I'm at! I do respect your viewpoint, and hope for positive things. I do know the current directors are busting their tails to make this club better. Are you coming to the Convention? We are all hoping for good weather and good times. David J.(the Fat Boy from Georgia!) P.S. I really do like Johnnie's suggestion of a Lifetime Membership.

I think Jim is trying to do the best he can with the organization and maybe does more in the background than we know. I know he works hard at EAA Oshkosh in the type tent. Even writing and producing a newsletter on a periodic basis in not an easy task. I write one for our flying club once or twice a year and it's difficult to come up with new ideas.

On another note: made reservations for Middletown at the Best Western yesterday. I think there will be three or four of us flying down. Unless the weather doesn't cooperate. If that happens guess I'll have to drive.
